OUR VALUES IN ACTION: A CODE OF EDITORIAL VALUES
1. The Trust is the most valuable asset of the SehMat Foundation, which was formed in May 2021. Everything we do as a non-profit revolves around this hard-won and incalculable long-term asset, and should continue to revolve around it. The goal of codifying editorial ideals is to maintain and strengthen the trust relationship between our editors and their readers.
2. The NGO must continue to safeguard the integrity of the blog it publishes, as well as the editorial content and commercial activities that keep the NGO afloat and help it expand.
3. The world has changed, but the ideals of fairness and justice remain essential to us. We declare that our editorial will foster the goal of “peace” and “union” among the people, as well as a secular editorial policy of preserving absolute impartiality in matters of religion while providing fair criticism and comment when religious issues impact political or social concerns.
4. The basic editorial principles of truth-telling, freedom and independence, fairness and justice, good responsible citizenship, humaneness, and dedication to the social good are generally embraced today by all trustworthy newspapers and newspaper-owning corporations. To live up to these ideals, members and editors of the Foundation must excel in professional disciplines, particularly the discipline of checking all that is published. It necessitates our editors’ independence from those they cover, fair and just news coverage, and the avoidance of conflicts of interest. It involves being engaging and inventive, as well as learning and mastering new ways and techniques of storytelling and presentation of editorial material in the digital era, in order to engage readers and foster a dynamic and mutually beneficial dialogue. Above all, it entails a strict adherence to journalistic integrity. SehMat Foundation shall, as a rule, maintain a clear distinction between blogs, critical analysis, and opinion in its editorial content and shall not editorialize or opinionate in reports, in keeping with the exemplary tradition of a general non-profit of record and consistent with contemporary best practice. The Non-Profit should strive to give fair and balanced coverage of conflicting interests in its publications, as well as provide readers with a variety of reasonable perspectives, according to its editorial discretion.
5. The Non-Profit is totally dedicated to these principles, thus all editorial departments and activities are on the same page, even if they follow their own set of regulations. Both sides must collaborate closely on the basis of mutual respect and foundation, as well as in the spirit of embodying these values in a modern context.
6. Within the non-profit, any possible conflict of interest should be addressed in accordance with these ideals. This includes, among other things, improving openness and disclosure requirements in line with the best current norms and practices in the area.
7. Internally and externally, clear norms of honesty and social work must be established and communicated.
8. There is no wall, but there is a clear distinction between the non-commercial profit operations and editorial operations and content. In order to maintain impartiality, fairness, and objectivity in editorial functioning, it is important to develop professionalism in editorial functioning independent of shareholder influence.
